Ordered a DJI Phantom Quadcopter Case

dji_Phantom_caseI found a screaming price on a case for my DJI Phantom Quadcopter (remote control helicopter with four rotors) from MCM Electronics.  I have a Pelican case which looks close to the same, but not quite big enough.  If this case is even 1/4 a Pelican I’ll be happy.  I just need an easy way to transport the Phantom and its accessories as well as protect them when not in use.

A report will follow when the case arrives and I’ve had a chance to use it.

GoPro Hero HD Fisheye Distortion Compensation in Photoshop

Since I’ve started flying my remote control DJI Phantom quadcopter with the GoPro camera mounted on it, I’ve become very unhappy with the quality of the GoPro video and photos.  The lens is way too wide, creating an obnoxious fisheye effect.  Aerial photos or video can look pretty bad with this effect, as the horizon can look completely rounded.

Yesterday I shot some stills high above the neighborhood with the Phantom/GoPro setup.  I spent about 10 minutes mucking around in Photoshop with the liquify filter.  From the photo above you can see the difference.  On the right is obviously the original photo.  On the left is the version I mucked with.

Once I have the process down I’ll post the steps.   I may be able to create a photoshop action to automate this process.  Stay tuned.

All I need is another website to manage and create content for…

I’ve been wanting to log some notes, findings and fun things with regards to photography, video, aerial photography/video, computers, web design, mobile devices, nature, music, art, Photoshop, audio, gear, drones, hobbies…  you name it.

After a little thought I decided to create a new website to chronicle some of my  experiences in the above worlds and more.  I may talk gear, photography, PHP programming… who knows.  This site will be a big note pad for me to log and capture photos, videos and experiences which I find interesting.

Ambient Flight

I tried to find a website name that was catchy, which could also be broad and artistic enough to cover these many things I may write about.  When searching through some photography terms I came across “ambient light.”  I’ve been an audio professional and musician most of my adult life so the word ambient means quite a bit.  Ambience in audio engineering/music relates to a space and how sound reflects in it.  Ambience in  photography/video is similar, but related to light and not sound.  Since I’m diving into aerial photography, the word “flight” worked, but could also mean a journey.

Asleep yet? The short version: Here I will log my endeavors in artistic areas and activities which I dig.  You dig?
